Bike TT V

(Yesterday/Tuesday) The final RunFar TT of the season.

I'd kinda hoped to run into Aussie Geoff at the muster, but didn't see him. Did run into gmatom  and we chatted for a few minutes while I got self and bike ready. Glenda headed to the Veloway to warm-up, I headed to the Autobahn. Half way around my warm-up lap/loop I decided to just do two lap/loops: A building-to-strong warm-up and a harder, really hard, TT lap/loop such that I don't need to leave anything in reserve for a third strong-coming-down-to-easy lap/loop. Partly I was tired of going in loops, partly I'm tapering, partly it was a little dusk-ish and drivers are idiots.

So, two laps/loops as:
21:35 mins, 8.03 miles, 22.3 mph, 128 bpm HR, 92 rpm cadence, 553 calories.
20:44 mins, 8.03 miles, 23.2 mph, 142 bpm HR, 94 rpm cadence, 544 calories. (TT vital statistics underlined)
[the above from my geek-o-meter, from RunFar official results: 20:42 mins, 23.2 mph, 9th of 11 Male 40-44, 38th of 61 overall.]

Yes, it was a PR for a Run Far TT.

My overriding impression was that my perceived effort was sky-high compared to all but maybe the first floundering/thrashing TT, my heart-rate was 3-5 beats per minute higher, maxed out quite considerably higher (all, I suppose, verifying a higher perceived effort), was definitely not sustainable for a longer period, all for a 5 second gain over 8 miles! wtf? A reinforcing learning moment that restrained-strong trumps flat out?

Yes, it was a PR for a Run Far TT. But for the perceived effort I was surprised/disappointed(*) it wasn't closer to my fixated-upon arbitrary number threshold of 20 minutes. *sigh* next season ... (* disappointed in an abstractly intellectual manner, not a go-home-and-kick-the-cats-and-beat-The-Wife manner)

geek-o-meter stats:
50:42 mins, 17.52 miles, 20.7 mph, 129 bpm HR, 1180 calories.

Oh, and earlier in the morning I swam at Barton Springs pool. To meet and greet with patriathlete  and to share drafting duties with itrithere4iam . It's amazing seeing him 36 days out from his first Ironman, gliding through the water, me trying to keep up ...

bike, tt
