Um. If you have not seen it I do not want to color your experience. so...
Anyone else knocked sideways by all the false notes and OOC and blah, meh, mediocrity, of this season premiere? I can't tell if there was a moment I felt right about.
There is no way Sam would not tell Dean he was alive, in order to "spare him the hunter life". What does that even mean? Spare him the life that he chose, and also lived with great skill and passion throughout his whole adulthood? Spare him the work that he was much better at than Sam?
And even if Sam was magically transformed via Hell into whatever the opposite of a Care Bear is - Dean would not react the way he reacted to him showing up. Letting your brother who loves you more than life itself, who went to Hell for 40 years *just so that you could live* believe that you are dead? That's not just inconsiderate or wrongheaded. It is active betrayal.
Jensen was imo clearly trapped by the script into saying lines he didn't agree with and seriously not feeling it but at least trying to kinda show, at the edges, the outrage and hurt and whatthefuck that he was otherwise given only tiny moments to show. First I thought that, and then read an interview where he said, that as a fan, he was not happy and was instead trying to act the things he thought *should* be in the script.
And the rampant sexism! It's hard to live under sexist expectations as a woman. But consider how hard it is for men, this bullshit idea that by joining a family and giving a shit they have humiliated their manhood and come into the powerless and degraded woman's realm of station wagons and The Cheesecake Factory.
Dean is not neutered because he got a job and lives in one spot, but that's where they went with it. They went with the worst cliches possible. They went with the stalest and fakest double standard catch-22 "oh you wanted this so we trapped you in it - and you took it so now you have a golf bag and no cock and you are soft and not a hunter.really? How sad and pathetic you are in this life we wanted for you, you who have delicate features for a hunter."
Also...Lisa? Your year with a man suffering from PTSD and in the deepest grief of his life was "the best year of your life?" Hey, I've actually lived this one, anddespite the part where he is the best man on earth, it was still the worst year of my life...*because he was suffering*. It doesn't matter if he's super helpful around the house or a tiger in the sack, if he's in pain, that's what you see.
They actually were better with Lisa than I expected. Keep in mind that I have *exceedingly low standards* when it comes to women on SPN. If they don't betray you, stab you, or turn into a monster, I count it as a win.
Plus, the kid? Ben? What happened to him? Pod people replace him with a placid child?
And lastly, the Djinn... and this is what bree_black said - why would you change a very cool monster to make them *less* interesting? This bodes ill for us all...
