The Weeks in Review.
Since opening the countries largest fair (Los Angeles County) after labor day I really have not had time to post or read.
Let see what has happen to me:
1. Caught 3 people cheating in trying to enter the contests (Baking)
a. One used non-edible items on her gingerbread house and also used candied cabbages that she had not made.. The judge recognized them as ones that she sold someone the week prior.
b. Second person, She had a website of her wedding cakes on the end of one of her emails to me. She sells wedding cakes. She over the last 10 years has won over 2000 dollars. All she said was “You caught me”
c. Third person entered and was a professional. I had to call the police (6 hot hot hunky men). He had to be taken out of the fair..
2. New “foods”
a. Fried cupcakes
b. Fried coke “they flavor the funnel cake batter”
c. 18 inch (I am not kidding and it is funny to see) corndogs
3. While teaching 5 yr olds in the McDonalds Farm Kitchen I asked one of the boys.. What do you want to be when you grow up?? Answer: An army man! .. I said.. the rate we are going.. You will get your wish!
4. We had two rounds of contests for Tamales. Sweet and Savory. The sweet were horrid.. The judges decided not to award prizes.. First in history.
5. I fell in LOVE with an 87 yr old contestant. It was her first time and all she wanted was to enter the fair. She got all dressed up.. in her house dress.. Used her walker to get on stage and she won the 3rd prize.. Me.. this is the 5th day working with 18 hour days..
She made the fair worth it!
