hello hello!
everyone is posting these back from christmas/holidays/break entries, so i'm feeling like it's my turn.
the holidays were good, actually, but they generally are. gained 5 lbs eating my mother's cooking and making too many deserts, saw the family. we had two new babies (my cousins') this year, so that was lovely. it's nice to have kids around, it's been 11 years since anyone in my family had a baby, and before that it was 12 years and it was me, so i don't exactly remember.
leaving was a bit sadder than usual, since i'm not sure when i am going to be back, especially if i get a job here this summer. my grandfather g was rather annoyed at this prospect, which i get, and so am i. i don't get to see the grands nearly enough as it is.
anyway, back in t.o. for new years, which miss a came up for, omgyay. i missed her so much. we didn't really do a whole lot, went out for dinner and drinks on the eve, but mostly spent the rest of the time here roaming around and shopping. we did go ice skating at harbourfront centre in the rain though. i wish the weather had been better, but at least it wasn't -14.
and. so, on nye we went out for drinks after dinner, and met a boy(!). here's the thing. i think i went out on a date with him yesterday. i've never been on a date before. i've never *anything* before, actually, except some drunken making out halloween of '03. anyway, he's a nice guy, if not my type physically, but that's an untested theory, isn't it? sigh. just freaking out here, a little. we'll see what happens. i'll call a and my sister later and freak out on the phone with them later.
meanwhile, the whole point of this journal, i've got caught up with some fics since the holidays (can i just say that
merry_smutmas is just lovely trouble?) and i figured i'd drop some recs here.
a quest of paladins: draco/hermione, i think i was pointed toward it by
lastandleast, for which i say thank you. i don't read enough het, and this is remarkably well written. i think a well-done hermione is possibly one of my favourite characters in any fic, and this is no different. it's really a book 7 substitute, with plot and all that lovely goodness, and some creative uses of magic that are really great.
harry potter and the inconvenient condition, which despite being declared crackfic by the author(
mirasfics) is totally my thing. harry/draco, in which harry manages to get turned into a vampire. i love it. ridiculous premise, but really well written.
not quite there by anansay, just astonishes me in its thoughtful contruction. harry/draco, with an ambiguous ending that leaves everyone begging for a sequel in the comments, but totally works on its own. heartbreaking and lovely.
and that's all for now, folks. cheers!
