These are a few of my body's least favorite things

I went to see an allergist recently since my doctor thought I might be reacting to something. So I went, and he did tests and told me that I'm highly allergic to dust mites. I'd thought that for years, but also figured that I probably wasn't really allergic and had just built the whole thing up in my mind so that I could avoid cleaning things. This ( Read more... )

1) Nasacrom nasal spray is amazing. It's really gross to put a thing in your nose four times a day, and it's a hassle, but wow does it work. I am smelling smells I have not smelled since I was a child. You can get it over the counter.

2) In addition to allergy medication, which I love, my doctor suggested Querciten, a bioflavanoid. It's plentiful in grapefruit and onions. He said at least several grams a day. If you're interested I can dig up some brand suggestions for you; you should never buy a supplement that's not from a trusted brand.

Querciten is totally safe and should not interact with anything, but I know of one possible problem with it that is very unlikely to affect you. Querciten is a phytoestrogen. For most women this is a good thing, but for some reason it makes my endometriosis flare up. So if you have problems related to estrogen levels (menstrual cramps, PMS, endo, etc.) just watch out to see if it worsens them. It's supposed to help with that kind of problem, it's actually recommended for endo, but bodies are peculiar and you never know.

When I got diagnosed with allergies I was so bummed because there's just so much work involved, but I'm glad now because I'm a lot healthier.

I will mention Nasacrom and Querciten to my allergist, although I'll probably try the Querciten at some point anyway unless he thinks it's a really horrible idea for me. I do get cramps sometimes, but I usually don't suffer from medication side effects for some reason so I'm willing to experiment.

I'm taking an allergy medication (Zyrtec) but I might try to switch to something else. I was prescribed it by my regular doctor before we knew what I was allergic to, and I'd like to see if there's something better suited to my problems.

I am taking a nasal spray right now (Flonase.) But the one website I found on Nasacrom seemed to think they could be used together. So again, I will bring it up with my allergist.

Out of curiosity, what are you allergic to?

I'm not sure I'm spelling querciten right. There's a good chance your allergist has never heard of it (as a rule, conventional MD's usually don't know much about alternative treatments, no matter how scientifically proven they are.) You should ask him anyway though.

So far as I know there's no reason you couldn't take it with any other medication.

I don't know what I'm allergic to, probably pollen. I've never had the chance to go through the battery of tests. My immune system is already stressed because I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and then last summer I went through a period of emotional stress while we were having the worst pollen season in ten years. So I got terrible allergic symptoms; before that I hadn't noticed any major problem.
