at the courthouse today

I had my hands under the air dryer when I noticed the fat cop behind me. He was shorter than me, much older and wore dark sunglasses. I recognized him, he was smoking outside when I walked in. He said something inaudible then asked for my ID when I saw the tall cop behind him. Fat cop asked for a job card, twice, and I told him I didn't know what that was, twice. He strolled around the bathroom stall, hunting for something while the tall cop searched my black bag, disorganizing my papers. He asked me where I was from and who I worked for and what I was doing there. My hands were shaking. I was all first circuit when I should have been second.

I could not be a bank robber or terrorist or sneak something past security. I learned that today. Apparently, I am unable to stay cool if uniformed authority figures with guns interrogate me. It's disappointing to know you're not one iota of cool as you think you are. But it knocks you off your high horse and who doesn't need that once in a while.
