...that the head of your church has lost his mind:
Adopt sharia law in Britain, says the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams
The Archbishop of Canterbury was embroiled in a fierce political and religious row last night after he called for aspects of Islamic sharia law to be adopted in Britain. Dr Rowan Williams said that it "seems inevitable" that elements of the Muslim law, such as divorce proceedings, would be incorporated into British legislation.
Here is the link to the article cited above:
Financial Times of London The line that really boggled me was this:
Dr Williams said the argument that "there's one law for everybody" was "a bit of a danger" and called for "a constructive accommodation" with aspects of Muslim law.
I honestly hoped this was a hoax. My wife and I check The Onion and Snopes.com, but, alas, this appears to be a genuine statement from the leader of the Anglican church.
For all the news:
Google News lookup My father-in-law is a retired Episcopal minister. I'm still waiting to hear from him on this matter.
I respectfully submit this question: is, or is not, the British Monarch the head of the Church of England? If she is, then perhaps she has the authority to fire him and call upon the episcopate to elect a new head. That may be their only hope.
It's really a pity. The Anglican church seemed so promising; it's a shame that its current leader seems bent on fracturing it beyond all repair...
