Anatomy of an ID project

Dec 13, 2007 13:10

I donno why i did this, but i thought i'd share how much work is in one project, focusing on the final steps/putting it all together. that means all furniture pieces, flooring, walls, and fabrics have been chosen. yes we have 10 weeks to do it, but we also have 4-5 other classes to deal with. not all the steps are pictured and i'll explain as well as i can.

Step one:
Color the Canson copies of the floor plan(s) and rendering. i had 2 floors and a rendering, i didn't take a photo of my rendering cause i suck. :p we use prismacolor makers to color and follow up with prismacolor pencils (expensive!!) i've gotten better at coloring floor plans, but i still hate it. total estimated time of coloring 3 pages and drawing: 6 hours

Step two:
what you see here is just some of the pieces chosen glued to black presentation foam board. i use spray adhesive, which ends up getting everywhere and glued down my arm hairs. lol

Step three:

worst step ever...using a T-square and an excato blade to cut every picture out. it's a bitch, thats all. i'm lucky i still have all my fingers! haha!!

Step four:
arrange on ANOTHER piece of foam board as the final product. i suck at this part evidently, what i personally think is too crowded and confusing is the ideal layout. blah...whatever. notice that there is fabric and draperies on the board...fabrics are ironed and wrapped around heavy cardboard or foam board. i use handy dandy duct tape to secure them to the cardboard. after all is arranged how you like it, it's time to glue it aaaalllll down. i use Liquid nails for everything. it's my new best friend. Ain't nuttin fallin off these boards.

Finished Product:
As you can see there are a BUNCH of boards. number of boards ranger from person to person and from project to project. some may just have 4, some end up with 9 (including floor plans). i used a total of 12 foam boards on the entire project, presentation and mounting. thats about $60 is foam board. CRAZY!

so i love and hate this project, the stress makes you hate it, but the ideas and the way you end up bringing everything together makes you love it. i guess thats why i still do it.
