notes and update for anyone waiting
Sorry for anyone still waiting for the second half of Mirrors to Windows and Living the Life Fantastic. Especially the latter, since you'll have been waiting for that for what is approaching a year.
The issues are mostly my unbridled sense of laziness and also a few other events that've happened that have just sort of killed the muses for them. I'm trying to get Mirrors to Windows out at this very moment, but I've been through several drafts of the start and I've liked none of them, so I might just have to stick with something I don't actually like and pull through that, though I hate to do so (the thought actually makes me cringe). Considering my last readthrough of the first chapter more disappointed me than encouraged me, I might have to do something about that as well. Bleh.
As for Living the Life Fantastic, the thing that happened here is that sometime in January, my computer completely crashed. Utterly. I had to save a lot of my files onto disks in safe mode and then go reinstall the entire OS, wiping the entire hard drive. Unfortunately the one file I forgot, because I had thought it was perfectly safe in LJ drafts (which I use a lot) was the file for this fic and I lost a very large chunk of it. Although a lot of it was written in notebooks, after that happened, I was frustrated just looking at the word file because I knew I'd have to rewrite things I've already written, which falls into the area of "making effort".
However!
Recently I've been looking at it again and not feeling a sense of annoyance and loathing, so a lot of it is being written, and if I keep at it, the next chapter will probably be finished pretty soon.
That said I'm also working on a one-shot that's just kind of whoring my muse and refusing to let me work on other things (as it will do sometimes) so it might be a bit before the chapter is actually finished. It's a bit of a long one, since it has a combination of THINGS HAPPENING and talking which is serious.
But, who knows. I'm perpetually bothered by fics I don't finish - the fact that this is burning me despite the fact that it's been several months will give you an idea on how much this bugs me. If you tripped over a wormhole and met me twenty years in the future in a timeline where I finished neither of these fics, you'd probably still find me agonising over a computer, knowing that I should probably finish it.
Because, you know, I hate finding fics I quite like and then realising that oh, the last time it updated was 2004 and shitting blimey NOW THIS STORY WILL NEVER END IN MY HEART. So I hate to do that to anyone else, although I might doubt that anyone likes my fics.
But anyway!
So yeah, you should look forward to that.
And although I doubt that anyone will read this except for people who happen to stumble across it, I ... could use a beta or at least a person to read this one-shot though. It is quite angsty indeed, and if you're reading this I would like to hear your thoughts on it, just as I am sure you would like to hear my thoughts on how great that shirt looks on you.
