Oh gosh, this comment made my day. Thank you very much ♥ ♥ I am super glad you liked these write-ups!
Yeah, it bothered me too ... I mean, how can he make such different faces when confonted to the same situation ? Unless he truly was - as he said to sanzo and cie - bluffing, but it's quite hard to believe .. I--I think both Hazel and Minekura would have a tough time convincing me he was bluffing. In fact I feel Minekura made it pretty clear that he was willing if not actually going to do it. It's all about the way he says it, and the paneling... But then, that was back when Minekura was really hitting us over the head with HEY HEY GUYS HAZEL IS A BAD GUY--it wasn't till later that she started trying to convince us that, hey, there might be something more to this guy than just being a jerk. The way Minekura sets it up, at least, makes it far easier to believe that Hazel was willing to let the women die rather than...testing Sanzo and company, or just plain ol' bluffing.
BUT I agree completely re: the possible side effects of Hazel being able to manipulate lives. I don't think it's, like, jarred him deep in his psyche or anything of that magnitude, but it's definitely made him more careless. It makes him count lives very clinically as Sanzo points out, and that doesn't jive well with the Sanzo party.
I also think Hazel is a bit socially stunted! I mean, he's not crippled--he is capable of having a thoughtful, meaningful conversation with people. But I think he's sort of distanced himself from people over the course of his crusade against youkai, definitely; and while he can connect with people the opportunity almost never arises, and those people are very rarely capable of making him think twice on his views of the world. Hazel seems very...set in his ways, so when he's presented with a new idea--by people like Ukoku and Sanzo--it has an obvious effect on him, but it also confuses him because he's got himself well-trained in this mindset.
WATCH ME RAMBLE HA HA HA ._. ♥ B-but it was no bother at all, and again, I'm really glad you liked these essays. I'm always up for talking at people, it's a lot of fun o/
But then, that was back when Minekura was really hitting us over the head with HEY HEY GUYS HAZEL IS A BAD GUY--it wasn't till later that she started trying to convince us that, hey, there might be something more to this guy than just being a jerk. ===> I hadn't noticed Minekura's tactic ... since I just read vol 5 to 8 in a row ( go to hell, damn french edition which haven't published anything since november !!! ) I guess I lacked the distance needed XD
I hope the reversal of Kazuya's policy concerning Hazel means he's not going to die ( I don't dare to hope he will join the group one of these days ...) ... But I had the same reaction concerning the whole "I can't protect him" Sanzo thing ... "It's kind of sweet, but it probably also opens up the possibility of both of them dying horribly somehow." =====> please don't kill him minekura-sama !!!

I'm so glad you appreciated my comment ! I was a little frustrated since I had so much to say in french and didn't know how to put it into english. And I'm so glad you replied ! I don't know any other hazel's fan around me, it's such a pleasure to talk about him x3
