I guess everyone's already said it themselves, but what a brilliant waste last night. We ... did what we could, and I apologise to anyone we didn't manage to save. I saw the one deity talking about it. He mentioned that we're all in his domain. I'm not the one who figures myself good at chess-mostly because I'm not, that's Ron's thing-but I can ( Read more... )

There is nothing wrong with taking a cue from the people around you, Harry, and trying to enjoy moments for what they are without thinking about what you could do to change the situation. Life can't always be a pitched battle, even in our heads, even when it should be. The stress of it would drive us to, well, any number of unpleasant things.

There is no reason to be miserable. Don't dwell on it if you can't change it.

So it's better to lie and say we're happy?

I never suggested lying. It's better to be happy and appreciative.

I don't want to trivialize it by saying something like, one should focus on trying to make their glass seem half-full and half-empty. This isn't about optimism or pessimism. More that the one in control of your attitude is yourself, not the rest of the situation.

I can't be okay with what's happening here, especially with what happened.

We ... saved a lot of people, but not everyone. You know that, don't you?

You have got to stop thinking of it so simplistically. Hopefulness and cheerfulness, a positive outlook, having these things does not necessarily mean that you have to be complacent. And a lack of satisfaction does not necessarily mean that you have to have a lack of contentment. You can be dissatisfied with the situation that you are in without pointless frustration.

The point is that you can never save everyone. But that doesn't mean that you have to abandon a constructive attitude to be a good person.

There aren't many things to have a good outlook about here.

Aren't there?

I suggest that you try looking a bit harder, Harry Potter. You're alive. That is one thing to be happy about.

There is your starting point.

Yes, I'm alive, but other people aren't. You aren't and you don't even

I like knowing that I can fix things. It's why I've come this far.

Yes, some people are dead now. Bless their souls. What does your conclusion that you are powerless do for them?

No. You have come this far because you have friends and family who want the world for you and would like to see you happy and safe one day. And you would fare well remembering that.

What can we do against the deities?

Yes, I know, I have love, and with that, I can help.
