I think there's a point, but I don't think it's anything that's geared toward helping us.

Whatever reason we're here for, it's for the deities. There's theories that negative emotions fuel and power the clock in the Underground, so what's better than creating a bunch of negative emotions to feed whatever pet project the deities and their masters have cooked up?

It's not about not caring. And people have different ways of mourning. Some people don't cry when they're upset or grieving. Some people get revenge or get angry or do something, even if it's not necessarily proactive.
