Dodgeball? Of all the things to do, I never thought I'd be in a place making that a requirement for a day. I'm quite glad that it never happened back home, either. I was good at avoiding Dudley when he wanted to play. Er, that was my cousin, but he was rather large and rather good at throwing things hard, if he could manage to aim. If he hadn't ( Read more... )

england has dodgeball tournaments, unaffected, harry is antsy

That sucks. I was totally hoping to wage a battle of balls with you.

Sometimes, I think so. I think a lot of people come from such active backgrounds and worlds that the majority of us aren't really sure what to do with ourselves after a certain point, especially if you know there's something going on at home that you should be around to fix. Mostly that's where you just... find people to surround yourself with, things to do, things you like. Hobbies, I guess.

I'd end up wanting to use magic somehow, I think. It wouldn't be very fair.

My idea of a hobby is quidditch, which isn't all that possible here. I could read up on what I missed in the last year of school, but that's a problem, too.

It's not that I want to keep playing hero, but it's rather unsettling here. Like I told Ginny, if it was completely peaceful, I don't think I'd mind. But is isn't.

I've seen magic from your world before. That wouldn't be fair at all.

You could always find a new hobby, as stupid as that sounds. I do think that a job might help you, since it'll give you something to do but...

My uncle, Peter, he's a hero. Probably the only real one that I've ever met. He's probably someone you should talk to about all this. I don't really think that I'm that much help.

I don't think I'd be able to help it.

The only job I've ever wanted has involved a bit of action. I could work for the police force, but it isn't the same.

Peter? I'll keep that in mind. But anyone can be a hero.

Because it's a natural reaction or because you're just a mean person at heart?

I used to think that. After I'd saved the world or something, I'd go join a police unit somewhere and save people. Sometimes things don't end up how we expect or plan them, too, even if it's just because this place gets in the way, but I probably don't have to tell you that.

Petrelli. Peter Petrelli. Anyone can be a hero, maybe, but some people choose not to be. Some people choose to be the opposite even when they've got the power to actually be a hero.

I think the City's power would make me that way. Not thinking clearly.

I think that's what I'll be doing anyway, back home. But here, it's different. I don't know that they'd want a wand at work.

I don't think I could. Do nothing, I mean. But I never had much of a choice, and even when I did, I still went along with it because it was what was right. I realise that doesn't make me sound like I'm proud of the decision, but I am. I had to do it.

At least against me, you wouldn't have to worry. I'm tougher than I look.

I think they'd want all the help that they could get, but I don't know how they feel about ages with that kind of thing. Like you said, you're only almost eighteen. At one point in time, there was a potions shop here. I think Hermione took it over and turned it into something new. I don't know if that's action packed enough for you, though.

I don't think that people who are proud of the decision to become some kind of hero ever actually sound proud about it. Maybe because being a hero isn't always all that grand when you get down to it.

Are you? I'll take your word for it.

A potions shop isn't really my thing. It might be good practise, admittedly, but we don't get on that well. Hermione's always been quick to remind me of that.

It isn't that grand. And sometimes people don't realise they're heroes. I've always had people reminding me, even if it's frustrating.
