Calling all grad students!

I've been thinking quite a bit lately about graduate school, and my life and education in general. If you're a grad student, or have been a grad student, or are thinking about being one, or have any sort of opinion about education, I would love to hear it ( Read more... )

Two things:

1) I think continuing your education with any of those degrees would be a fabulous choice - and I say this as someone who misses the Institution of Education more than anything else. It is an institution, it does oppress, but it values the human mind and rhetoric and innovation more than THAT OTHER INSITUTION I AM ABOUT TO SPEAK OF... so yes. I think grad school would be grate for you; and of course I say that as someone who lusts constantly for SCHOOOOOOOOOL but doesn't have the cajones to leave the cycle of opression I am currently in. So I (a) have glorified this wonderous world o' grad school and (b) have no hands on experience with it.

2) I also recommend joining the work force first before you move into grad school. It is the institution wot owns me right now - and it is FAR MORE OPRESSIVE as you are completely controlled by political manuvering (not that that's not in grad school too, howevez) via office politics and the crushing, crushing crushingness of Real World Sexism and the shocker: agism. (After being considered awesome in college, you get your new job at age 23 and NO ONE RESPECTS YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE SO YOUNG. salkjflaskdj. *hates and has hypocritically become the worst agist of all*) Also: the siren call of money (i don't see me going back to college now as I really like the paycheck, what?) and how you find out what your price is. As you may know from reading my journal, my job is currently SUCKING THE SOUL OUT OF ME, but hey. I got paid on Friday and can therefore go to California next week for Comic Con. TRADE OFF? oh i feel like such a corporate whore. I am recommending trying out the workforce because it makes you value school SO MUCH MORE because there is HIGHER LEVEL THINKING and SOCIAL COMMUNITY and HOPE in academia.

anyway. there's two cents.
