Sweden Opens World's First Movie Theater for Dogs*
*The moral of the story:  Distraction is good for the soul, especially if soul food is included.

Folks (especially you, Athie)--I understand you're expecting self-help tips from me, and I understand (you have made your opinion clear, Athie) that you wish I would avoid being overly political.  But today is a historic day for us dogs and all I'm doing is mentioning it.  Breathe, if you feel your blood pressure going up.  Breathe, Appreciate, Move.  Or go to a good movie, preferably with a dog in it.  OK?

The canine star of Marmaduke received a judgment of his performance by his peers. The live-action film starring Owen Wilson and George the Great Dane was screened in Stockholm this month - for an audience of dogs.

What's believed to be the world's first-ever movie theater for pets opened at Sweden's annual pet exhibition to great fanfare. The project was initiated by Fox Home Entertainment, who contacted the fair organizers with the idea.

"A cinema for dogs! This sounded like music to me," project manager Gerd Linden tells PEOPLEPets.com. "A movie with a dog as the principal actor at a pet exhibition? [How] could we do something else?"

The fair hosted eight Pedigree-sponsored screenings in all, and up to 20 dogs attended each showing. Shockingly, the film wasn't the most enticing part of the event (sorry, George). Pedigree provided goodie bowls filled with snacks for the movie-going pooches. "To be honest, most of the dogs laid their eyes on the food," Linden says, "but at least they could be with their owners during the cinema and not be left at home.

"We intend to continue this next year and also welcome other pets," Linden says. "We might have dogs, cats and snakes - though not in the same row."
