I opened my email this morning to find a message from dear friend
Rev. Diana Moore.
When Diana left us to return to Vermont, she took our Spunkin kitty with her and gave her the most loving care possible on this earth. She writes a Sunday message without fail. Here is today's message from Diana, to all of us, with love.
Good Morning,
I was watching Sunday Morning on television this morning with my mother, which has been a ritual for us for years. I have become aware in recent years how they choreograph the segments - a serious one, a lighter one, then a serious one and then a lighter one. I have also been aware of my energy level when watching it. This morning they began with a segment on the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, in detail. I watched most of it, but had to not look at some of it. I know it is important to know what is happening in the world, but where is the line between knowing and absorbing? For me the line is clear, but occasionally I test it. We choose to watch television. We choose to watch the news, which is both auditory and visual and energetically feeling as well. The way news is reported is often designed to touch us in some deep feeling way, especially with tragedy. To me it feels like taking a depressant. I feel my energy level drop and I feel heavy and sad, sometimes angry. If I had not been watching this segment I would not have chosen to lower my energy and feel depressed, even for a moment. I already knew about the incident in Colorado and have been praying for all involved and for our world. So I offer these thoughts to raise our awareness of where we choose to place our focus and for how long. Television manipulates our emotions and therefore our energy. So does any other type of media. I want to be aware of what is happening in my/our world, but I choose not to allow my senses to be manipulated. I choose to limit my attention to media. I choose to be aware but not absorbed. I choose to focus on Light, Love, Peace and Joy as much as possible. In this way I can ride the currents of the mass media influence on our culture and our world and offer an island of serenity.
With Gratitude and Love,
Diana
Diana added this poem:
Beannacht
("Blessing")
On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.
When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.
May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.
