And I'd give up forever to touch you
cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll
Ever be
And I don't want to go home right now
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
cause sooner or later its over
I just don't want to miss you tonight
- "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls.
“I gotta meet him.” Rosie kept glancing between the stage and Jenny who’d bought her ticket to England.
“You can’t just meet them.” Jennifer loved Rosie like a sister but there were moments when her wild go get it attitude worried her friend.
“Why not?” Rosie finished off her cosmo and set it aside.
“He’s.. well..”
“Aww come on.” Rosie smiled leaning in to whisper. “Ain’t gonna hurt nothin’ to try.”
Geordie was still on stage but about to finish the last song of the night. Jenny had been a fan of this band for ages but Roseanne hadn’t known much about them until a week ago when Ashley got sick. Rosie was the lucky one to get to come along.
“Ya know you wanna meet ‘em.” Rosie’s words slurred a little but the big grin was warm as the booze she’d been drinking.
“Alright.” Jenny broke into a smile. “How should we try?”
Rosie had never met anyone famous before but she wasn’t ready to have that stop her now. “Can’t we just walk up to ‘em? Ya know ask for an autograph or somethin’?”
Jenny and Rosie both started rummaging their purses. “ I have a marker.”
They both looked at the red sharpie in her hands. They didn’t have anything to sign but Rosie had an idea. She was always the mischievous one and maybe that was why Jenny’s parents hadn’t wanted her to come along in the first place. She finally took it.
“I gotta idea.” Rosie smiled and started leading the way through the crowded pub.
“You worry me.” Jenny hurried after the much taller girl and out the back door. “There.”
A car was parked out back and waiting. It was worth a try. Both girls started over toward the backstage doors.
“No further girls.” Security stopped them only a few feet from the door.
“I only want an autograph.” Rosie pouted while Jenny seemed nervous as a rabbit. This was one of her favorite bands after all.
“Geordie doesn’t do autographs.” The security guy was busy saying something when the door behind him opened.
“What kinda band don’t give people at the show autographs?” Rosie raised her voice d a little despite Jenny’s look of horror. “Just wantta get Brian and Vic’s autograph then we’ll go.”
That did it. Security or not the band, seeing that there were only the two of them waved the security away.
Rosie whispered. “Told ya.”
“What can I do fer you girls?”
It was Brian standing there. Rosie hadn’t realized how short he was. Even without heels she had to have 5 inches on him but it did nothing to stop the butterflies. Suddenly she didn’t know what to do.
“We.. uh..” Jenny totally fumbled the question.
Rosie had to push on through or lose the chance. She had the biggest grin ever and Brian winked. It could have killed her. “We just in from Florida. My friend’s one of ya biggest fans but she ain’t too good at askin’.”
“That so.” Brian was joined by Vic and another that Rosie couldn’t remember the name of. “When she can ask I’ll give her one. How about you?”
Rosie went on instinct and offered the sharpie. She still didn’t have anything to sign. Brian took the marker laughing. They all were and Rosie imagined she was looking quite like her name.
“How about right here?” He poked all the exposed cleavage with a jovial and absolutely playful manner that didn’t offend at all.
Rosie shrugged as he pulled off the cap. She just wanted to talk to him and now he was going for writing on her skin. The butterflies had turned to feeling shaken.
“Who should I write it for?”
“Her name’s Rosie.” Jenny finally found her voice and something more appropriate for the others to sign. She abandoned Rosie there with the singer leaning into her cleavage.
“Ah Rosie.” Brian gave her another devil smile then began reading as he wrote. “To Rosie, Keep on Rockin’. -Brian Johnson”
“That looks pretty.” He handed her the marker which she almost forgot to take.
“Thanks.” She couldn’t even imagine anything else to say.
“We’re playing down the road tomorrow night. You girls should come see us again.”
“Sure.” Rosie felt like such and idiot. She was the butterfly of the group. She could socialize with the best but now she fumbled all of it.
“Come down early and I’ll get you one of those drinks you had all night.” He left her standing there with the same laughter he had the whole time.
He knew what she was drinking? Rosie almost fainted when she thought about it. “Thank you. See ya tomorrow.”
It was the dumbest thing she’d ever said but he still waved. The rest of the band was joining back up with him at the car. They were all laughing and seemed happy. Rosie liked that about them.
“Rosie. We have to leave tomorrow.”
“Not ‘til 3 am. We go lotta time.” Rosie smiled looking down at the autograph across her left breast. It gave her the jitters. “What’d ya get?”
Jenny produced one of the pub’s glasses that now was autographed. Rosie giggled drunkenly and hugged Jenny. “Ya stole it.”
‘They’ll never know.” Jenny slipped it back into her purse. “Let’s have another drink and head back to the loft.”
“Good idea ta me.” Rosie followed Jenny back inside but she was still thinking about the guy she’d been watching sing most of the night. She couldn’t wait to see him again.
