Monday Morning TV

Apr 25, 2011 11:51

Even though we got out side for quite a bit, and even made out on the lake on Saturday afternoon, we spent a lot of time watching TV this weekend.  All cut for spoilers in case you haven't watch any of these.  Working backwards:

Game of Thrones
I just can't get into this show. I feel like I need to support genre TV, especially high quality TV like this, but I just can't get into it.  It's just a bunch of despicable people doing deplorable things to eachother.  I can't even find a hero to root for here.  I've been told by someone who's read the books to give it one more episode. I'm sure I'll stick with it, but it may no longer be a must-watch on Sunday nights anymore.

Doctor Who
Totally lived up to all the hype. So many questions! Is Amy really pregnant? If so, then why was River feeling ill with the aliens as well? The aliens are The Silent, so what does that have to do with Silence Will Fall? Is that good or bad?  Who was in the spacesuit?  Could it be the Doctor himself? Did River become a time traveler because of the Doctor or she became one after meeting the Doctor? Does he ultimately give her the catch phrase "Spoilers"? Can we say for certain that River is definitely NOT a time lord now?  Is that other ship some kind of Tardis?
A couple of thoughts on the episode: i love Mark Sheppard. He was awesome in Supernatural. I also loved that the old Canton in 2011 was actually played by his dad.  I need to rewatch The Lodger again. The girl's voice sounds pretty much the same as the one that was luring in people off the street. I wonder if there are any clues to The Silent being present in that episode like people forgetting things or feeling ill.  The shot of the little girl's face in the astronaut suit was also similar to the way that we saw faces inside the suits in Library of the Dead. I loved that River explains that her and the Doctor aren't just out of synch, they're actually moving in opposite directions. She knows the first time he meets her is the last time she'll ever see him and that's just both wonderful and sad and brilliant.

Fringe
This shows gets better and better every week. It would be awesome if they had the balls to actually destroy the "real" world and have Walternate win. I doubt that will happen, but it's cool.  Maybe that was the plan if they didn't get renewed. I appreciated the bookend of having the Folivia in the same jail cell as Olivia was in at the beginning of this season.  I've still had this theory that Walter didn't cause the alternate universe to fall apart, but that it was actually Walternate doing crazy stupid things to get Peter back that caused the troubles on their world.

Supernatural
I loved this episode.  The BttF ending was just great.  It would be awesome to see them do more with the Colt character hunting demons in the old western days.  I have a feeling that Castiel isn't going to survive the season, but that his "side" will ultimately win the war.
