As election night wound on, the first clues to Trump's victory were in the margins: In counties all over the country, Kamala Harris was doing worse against Trump than Biden had four years earlier.
There are two reasons for that, and they don't include Harris' laugh, her job history at McDonald's, or any other sophomoric jab thrown at her. Harris ran a brilliant campaign under incredible pressure. Second guessing any part of it doesn't add up to a Trump victory.
Two reasons: Joe Biden is white; Harris is black. Joe Biden is a man; Harris is a woman. A white man with Harris' qualifications could have beaten Trump despite his base. Racism, common to both men and women in America, and misogyny, common to both whites and blacks in America, helped deny her the margin she needed. (intersectionality рулез - whocares1970)
Ignorance and apathy did the rest. Way too few Americans-Democrats, Republicans and Apathetics-can be bothered to understand the world outside their jobs and families. Way too many Americans of all parties are willfully ignorant of any issue that can't be solved by attacking another tribe.
Some of us jump on the cult train, others, including many who did not vote for Trump, just go about our lives in a bubble and hope someone else will take care of the problems. Many of us climb into our phones and never come out again.
Greed and lust for power will always defeat apathy. Throw in ignorance, racism and misogyny and you've got a force that only courage, personal sacrifice and integrity can beat.
Many people on our side have integrity. It's time for everyday people to show courage, to sacrifice when necessary, and to uphold our humanity ... while fighting back.
