Name: Nathaniel Howe
Canon Point: Post DA2
Is this character dead? Nope!
History:
http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Nathaniel_Howe I will add that he is going to recognize and know Elissa Cousland
vengefulduty as his Warden-Commander. The others will just make him tilt his head and be super confused.
Personality:
Nathaniel is a serious man, hardened by unfortunate events in his life.
His family's name dishonored by the actions of his father during the
Blight, Nathaniel even now still feels the lingering hatred of those who
have no love for the Howes. But even still he works to bring honor and
good word back to his family name. Even after about 11 years after the
fact, most remember the Howe name poorly, but he soldiers on. When he
was younger he was very sore about the fact that his family was seen so
badly for the actions of his father, as he came more to terms with what
his father did and how it affected his family he seemed to take it more
in stride. 11ish years later it will still be a sore subject, but he
won't react so violently to mention of it, or get too worked up.
For
someone who looks to be extremely serious, which he can be, he's
actually quite pleasant to speak with in general. He can have his
childish moments like any, and while for the most part calm and
collected he does get aggravated easily at times, depending on the
person and the situation. More so if people bring up his family at all.
As much as he's grown to accept things as they are and work toward
something better it still bothers him. For someone who has worked along
side dwarves, elves and mages alike, he doesn't seem to mind any said
things on the base level. Of course there are always arguments to be had
over how the races and mages handle things or how people handle them
and he can jump in as easily as the next. He's not above teasing any of
them if appropriate, but will befriend them as well, as he does working
for the Grey Wardens.
He seems to genuinely care for people and
dislikes causing harm to them if possible, obvious in certain missions
in game where he'll disapprove if you don't help people who need it.
Even people he does not know well, if at all he'll want to help to the
best of his ability. Unless of course it's seen as a lost cause, because
he won't want to risk losing more lives to do something that probably
isn't worth it. He's complicated like that. Though as he's aged he does
seem more willing to risk his life, regardless of the severity of the
risk.
Skills | Powers: He is skilled with a bow
predominately, though he can use daggers or wield two blades at once if
needed. But he'll usually stick to his bow. He has skill in using
shadows to his advantage to sneak and hide in battle and out of battle.
Excellent lock picking skills. And his Howe nose beak brings all the Wardens to the yard.
First Person Sample:
I still do not like this 'tablet' but it seems that the most efficient way to speak with anyone here is to use it. [The Howe looks unamused at the idea of using this strange technology, but continues.]
I
would appreciate it greatly if someone could make sense of why there
are currently two other Warden-Commanders here. They all know know me by
name and can recant things I have been through but not with them. I do
not know them... I would not forget people I've fought along side.
[It seems to be troubling him though. But he'll give a small frown after some thought.]
Though I can say one thing is still the same. [Anders.
If you wanted to call the man he'd barely met in Kirkwall Anders. He
was not the same mage he'd known so many years ago. He was... different,
but he was Anders. And apparently an idiot. But that was nether here nor there.]
Whatever
this confusion is I think a meeting between all of us would be best.
Then perhaps some explanation can be made between the lot of us.
Third Person Sample:
He'll be sitting with a mug of some nondescript ale. He doesn't care really,
it's just something to have in front of him. Something to wrap his hands
around as he ponders things. After seeing Anders was indeed alive and
well again and they'd gotten out of the Deep Roads, he'd gone back to
Kirkwall and asked to meet up with him. Speaking with the Champion he'd
found out that Anders was very much not the mage he remembered.
Something had changed, and changed greatly. It shouldn't bother him so
much, sure they'd been 'friends' and all but it had been a friendship of
bickering and teasing and droll comments. In the end he did consider
Anders his friend, and he would trust the other to have his back in
battle, as he would watch his as well. So it was startling to see this
difference in the other, but some years had passed so it only made sense
he would have changed.
Right?
Said mage is suddenly
sitting before him, and he'll start, jumped as he hadn't been paying
attention. He'll pull his mug closer to him and lift it to take a large
swig.
"So, mage, what have you been up to in Kirkwall all these
years?" The Howe will ask first. Anders shrugs his shoulder, trying to
look indifferent. Like he hadn't been secretly fighting a war against
Templars and the Chantry, or planning to do dastardly things.
"Hiding
from Templars, healing the sick, helping the poor, wooing a Champion.
You know." He'll smile big, "Important things." Nathaniel will raise a
brow at the mage, believing it, but then he knows there is more to it
than just that. He's heard about how the other has gone mad with the
plight of the mages, he's no fool to Anders trying to avoid it. If one
wanted to call what he was doing avoiding.
"That simple is it? It sounds too boring for you, Anders. I believe you
left out a few things, perhaps that an old ally of ours resides inside
you now?" The Champion had told Nathaniel of Justice, of the spirit
inside Anders, how it made him behave at times, how Anders couldn't
always control him. It had honestly surprised the Howe, as Justice had
simply... left one day. Kristoff's body, decayed to a point where it was
no longer usable, slumped over and what spirit had been there was gone.
Nathaniel had genuinely enjoyed the spirit's company back in the day,
he was good for conversation, even if they did not always agree.
"Oh.
That." The mage smiles sheepishly, much more his old self. He'll wave a
hand as if to dissuade Nathaniel from wanting to talk more about it.
"He
just needed a new home, nothing wrong or strange about that, yes? We've
been good pals these past years. Hating all the Templars together,
fighting for mage rights. Typical friend stuff."
"Is it? You were
never so adamant about it before, mage. You wished to keep your own
freedom, but never got so embroiled as to fight for your fellow
magekin." Nathaniel will lean back in his chair a little, brows furrowed
as he tips his mug back a little, looking into the little bit of froth
left on his ale.
"Was it Justice? He was always adamant about you
fighting for the rights of the mages, to stand up to your oppressors.
Did his words finally sink in? Or is it that he's using yo--" But Anders
stops him, brows furrowed up, and he'll shake his head.
"You
don't understand do you? I've seen so many things, Nathaniel, terrible
things over the years... Justice has just helped me to understand that
there is something I can do about it. I can't just sit around and
watch mages be treated like this anymore. It's not right, and I WILL
change things. Whether I am seen in good light for it or not matters
little..." He'll stare down at the table, hands flat against it, and he
waits. Waits for his old ally to say something. Nathaniel will study him
for a moment before looking away, sighing. Fingers rap against the
table as he sits up straight now.
"... whatever it is, Anders,
don't lose yourself to him. There is a difference between you and
Justice, don't let yourself become lost in that." And with those words
Nathaniel will stand, tossing a few coins on the table. For Anders to
get himself a drink if he wished.
"It was good seeing you,
perhaps we will meet again. I will be in Kirkwall for sometime yet." And
before Anders can reply or say much else, he'll turn to leave, needing
to mull things over a bit.
