introduction/knit-a-long prelude

now that we know the details of the fourth doctor scarf knit-a-long, i figured this was a good time to introduce myself to the community. hi! i'm a beginning knitter who just finished a short course in basic stitches, so this is my first project. i've been a fan of doctor who since i was in high school and, as seems usual, became imprinted by the first doctor i saw: tom baker. i have dreamed for years of having my own impractically long scarf. and hat. and tin dog and adorably perky timelady companion. oh, but knitting those would be tough.

i got my yarn yesterday and have been pretty much unable to think of anything else. i might not be able to contain myself enough to wait for the july 1st start date! here's what i ended up getting:

all yarns are the nature spun line from brown sheep. left to right: (front) red fox, grecian olive, silver lining, amethyst (back) saddle tan, aran, roasted coffee

you'll notice the yellow isn't quite "right"-- but to be honest it was either the tan i ended up with or ordering a more mustard color, which i was never too keen on. this scarf is for me, not a fourth doctor look-a-like contest. everything else is pretty close to how i imagined though. i've been told that the nature spun will felt up if washed, so be warned. honestly, who washes their scarves anyway?

i'm also answering purpleprimate's challenge to knit in fibonacci numbers. that brings me to a question: according to the DIY site linked earlier i think we're to count the RIBS in fibonacci numbers-- which means that the rows are really doubled fibonacci numbers, correct?
