Rose's Boomtown scarf

Apr 02, 2009 18:16

I'm not really a fan of Rose, but I did admire her scarf in Boomtown, so I had a go at it. It took me a while to find a yarn with enough variegated colours, even though they’re a bit paler and ice-creamy.

I modified zbyszkoknits's pattern slightly. I'm not sure that Rose’s scarf is ribbed, but I can’t steam-block acrylic/tencel so I wanted some ribbing to flatten it a bit. After knitting a practice swatch, I found that one purl between does make the stitches around the holes stand out more and look more like cable, and it also doesn’t show as much as two purls. So I removed one purl between each hole repeat, and added a stitch to each end, which I then made knits to get the curl Rose’s scarf had. This worked really well. I also slipped and purled the YOs.

Two photos showing the scarf and what the pattern looks like close up.

BTW Thanks to this group and my friend crycraven for getting me back into knitting. It's great stress relief, and fun too.
