Yay reading week! Progress on my Five cricket sweater.

And by that, of course I mean I have a million other, more important things to do than to sit around knitting. Which is always more fun than those millions of things. Even when I have to try to untangle a knot for like... An hour. ARGH. Is there any secret to working with those big balls of yarn from walmart? Why is mine so tangly?

Anyway, here's the final swatch I did with the lighter yarn I picked up at walmart.

Though the cables are too close together row wise, I was pretty happy with this. So happy, I decided to make a start on the back!

The first try.

Well, it's too small. I didn't count the stitches right, or there was just something off on my math, but whatever. Too small. I'll start it again... At some point. XD I'm printing off that graph paper tomorrow at the school.

It's unfortunate that the swatches and this look about the same size... This is about twice as wide. I've guessed six cables on the back, going by the front, but there could be seven. Have one going right down the spine. *shrug* I think I like having it a little off center.

And that's where I'm at, so far! I've cut apart an old shirt and am using that as a 'template' of sorts, since I've never knitted a sweater before. The piece I have can stretch to the same size as the 'back' template but... I don't want it to have to stretch that much.

Any wisdom on knitting a sweater? n__n
