“Kyle,” was Hermione’s second word of the morning. The first had been a quick “Morning!” to Ron, as she had run off in search of her best friend Kyle. It must have been obvious that she was in a better mood, because Kyle had the sudden urge to grin upon seeing her, even though he was working off of only 4 and a half hours of sleep.
“You look like you’ve got something to tell me,” the Prefect prompted her, and as he spoke those words, they were confirmed in her eyes.
“Yeah,” she grinned, feeling bashful with success. “I think I’ve figured out our mystery cure, but I’m going to need your help.”
Looking around, Kyle knew that he had Prefect duties to fulfill after breakfast, but he figured he could run out with Hermione now to see what this was all about. Following her to the Gryffindor Tower, he waited patiently as she retrieved her selected book, and then returned to meet him in the hallway. It was while they were winding through the corridors to the library that Hermione quietly filled him in on what she had discovered.
“You were right all along,” she began, flipping open to the first of several bookmarks, “An object will cure Harry… but I was right as well. We'll require a spell too.”
“What type of object are we talking about?” Kyle automatically figured that the spell would have to be cast once they figured out what the item was, so he disregarded that for the moment.
Hermione shuffled the pages once more, before informing the boy of the most important piece. “Pure objects. The purest we can find. The purest, well, animal, I can think of is unicorns. I’m thinking a strand of Unicorn hair might do, because that’s all we’ll really be able to access.” Her thought process was already skipping ahead, a whole new topic developing in her mind. Kyle was actually struggling to keep up.
“So we need something pure… or several somethings pure? And then we’re going to charm them…?” he trailed off, looking at her for clarification.
She nodded briefly, turning the corner with her nose still in the book. “We’re going to have to figure out another thing that’s pure, and then… somehow adjoin the two together… I think. Here, have a listen.” She stopped mid-stride, in the middle of the empty corridor.
“If one who is pure has been corrupted,
Need he only dual purity, to be saved,
If those of golden hearts, so avid
Seek to save the lost soul who is enslaved.
Within the turmoil this remedy will reach
And there it will take its happy toll
But within the afflicted’s palm must sit each
For the individual to recover his soul.”
Kyle listened carefully, understanding what Hermione had meant now. They began to walk again. “So it sounds like it will save Harry, and I’m sure you’ve done your research on it… So now we just need something else pure…”
They had picked up the pace, when Hermione stopped once more, a far off look in her eyes. Kyle thought she might cry.
“What? You’ve thought of something?”
“Yes,” she told him quietly, with a well-deserved pause, “Love.”
Kyle wouldn’t understand, of course, but Hermione knew Ron would.
”We’ve got to find Ron.” She looked up at Kyle, before adding hastily, “Now.”
[EDIT] ooc: I edited my writing- I had a few errors... Ron, if you want, you could just write in what he's doing, where he is, ect. and I'll have the pair run up to him. :] They'll find any others they need soon after that.
