Santa Barbara (Film), Berkeley (Rhetoric/Film), and OtherstanaearandurilFebruary 10 2010, 20:55:47 UTC
Well, decisions are finally starting to roll in. UC Santa Barbara rejected me a couple weeks ago--as was the entire rest of the universe, it seems. (California money troubles = bad news for grad school applicants.)
I just received an email from UC Berkeley directing me to the application website only to THEN inform me that I had been rejected. Lots of disappointed people on the grad cafe, too (and a couple really lucky bastards). According to one poster, only 12 people were accepted (which, I understand, is about the UCB norm), 5 were film and 7 were rhetoric.
I also applied to Brown, U of Chicago, and USC--haven't heard from any of them (and I worry about jinxing them even posting this here). The only thing I've gotten is an email from Brown about two weeks ago letting me know that they were reviewing my application (as well as giving me a heart attack).
On the brighter side, though completely unrelated, my application to the JET program made it through the first round. Still, odds are about the same getting into Brown as they are going to Japan through JET, from the sound of it.
Anyway, good luck to everyone! I hope things work out (somehow) for all of us!
