Bill was jolted to the right as her car went over a bump that went unseen to her due to the sudden downpour of rain. Just another thing to add to my already ‘awesome’ day. She let out a long sigh.
She was on her way to St. Luke’s University, and although she was happy to have a job there, she still wished that she was going there as a student. Maybe I can still apply? No. That’s just not for me.
Pushing the thought out of her mind she stepped out of her car, her foot came down straight into a puddle that was awaiting her in the parking lot.
“Really?!”
She groaned and shook her foot sending drops of water flying, her fun colored shoe was now covered in the sopping wet muddy water. You know what? Others have had worse days. I’m fine.
Determined to have a good first day at work, she set off thought the parking lot towards the side entrance, avoiding puddles where ever she walked. Reaching the door of the university she pulled on it, but it held its ground. After one last tug she rubbed her temple, trying to res herself of the forming headache.
Was this job even worth all of this? She was a canteen, a lunch lady! Why endure all of this stress for this job? Why let it drive her too her wits end? With a frustrated sigh she started trekking her way around the building until she found an open door.
She took a step into the brightly lit hall, and tried to smile despite her unfortunate start to her first day on the job. Although she had been in the school before, it was all still fairly unfamiliar.
She somehow found herself outside of a lecture hall, spinning on her heels she was about to backtrack but she couldn’t bring herself to leave. She could overhear the confident voice from inside the lecture hall, as his words made up these sentences she wouldn’t dream of. Why she couldn’t bring herself too leave she didn’t know, something about the words that were spoken, she could tell that inside it wasn’t just an average professor.
Not sure what compelled her to, she cracked open the door and poked her head through, after a moments hesitation she slipped through the door and just stood there, watching and listening. The man that she heard from outside was older, as she suspected, but he had a youthful energy to him. The way he bounded around and spoke with such passion got her excited, and she wasn’t even sure what he was talking about.
Bill stood there, a smile on her face, listening and learning until the dawning realization that she completely forgot about work. Frantically she pushed open the door, racing down the halls once more. Stealing a look at her watch she saw she was only a few minutes late, thank goodness she left early today, maybe she could still recover from it.
Finally reaching her destination that the whole morning seemed to try to keep her from, she came upon the conclusion that maybe this wasn’t all bad. The work wasn’t awful, she actually kind of enjoyed getting to see all the students, and maybe it wouldn’t hurt to stop by a lecture or two once in a while.
This was the start of something, she could just feel it. She wasn’t sure what, but it was definitely something.
