The Who Anniversary Updates Just Keep On Coming!

Sep 11, 2013 21:39

Another day, another update!

You've heard what the run-time is, marvelled at what the title is going to be - now, courtesy of our member eloriekam who provided the link, get a load of the probably-entirely-authentic and hellaciously SPOILERTASTIC posters for the 50th Anniversary special. I'm not kidding about the spoilers, probably.

Seriously, though - if you want to remain completely unspoiled as to exactly "Who" John Hurt's character is and what his deal is, you should probably avoid even looking at those posters. Somehow. They may as well have written a little character bio and put it right there on the poster.

Unless that's what Moffat wants us to think...?! O.o

My grand conspiracy theories aside, it would seem that the issue yesterday with the BBC press release link that didn't work was related to the 50th anniversary schedule being "leaked" earlier than it should have been. Good old BBC efficiency! Now, though, you can read it in all its glory HERE (SPOILERY poster visible on this link too), or on Facebook HERE.

Details of things that weren't mentioned in the Radio Times article I read yesterday:

CBBC will broadcast a show, 12 Again, bringing together stars to share their memories of Doctor Who.

They include the seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, Tommy Knight, who played Luke Smith in The Sarah Jane Adventures, Warwick Davis, who played Porridge in a Doctor Who episode and Louise Jameson, who was the fourth Doctor Tom Baker's companion Leela.

Blue Peter is launching a competition giving viewers aged between six and 14 the opportunity to design a new gadget that will become part of the series and Matt Smith will appear on the Blue Peter sofa to answer viewers' questions.

BBC Three audiences will be encouraged to get involved and vote in Doctor Who: Monsters and Villains Weekend.

It would seem An Adventure in Space and Time is on BBC2 after all (bad Radio Times!), the Monsters and Villains weekend on BBC3 "will countdown to the top Doctor Who monster as voted for by you." Exciting! Bet the Daleks win. And BBC3 is also keeping close to its figurative vest a "further exciting commission to be announced later this year which will see the celebrations finish with a bang." Hmmm? That'll be the 90 rediscovered episodes, then. ;D

Anyway, lots more to read about and squee over on those links. My only grumble remains: why were overseas audiences treated to multiple re-runs of classic series stories and accompanying documentaries while we in the UK are apparently being denied? For that matter, why aren't they showing old Who stories on BBC4 all the time, anniversary or not? Questions I leave up to you, esteemed readers.

Until next time. :)
