28 Weeks to 50: Camera Obscura

May 11, 2013 10:10

Continuing my 50th Anniversary countdown of aggregated poll results for Doctor Who Books, TV Serials & Audio Dramas, with number 28:

28. Camera Obscura

Doctor: 8th (Paul McGann)
Companions: Fitz & Anji
Villains: It's complicated....
Synopsis:
What connects an illusionist, a mental patient, a child-killer and the Doctor's missing heart? Something is desperately wrong with time but who is really behind it?
Why is it so well loved?
1. It explores extremely high concept themes such as madness, time and death.
2. The period is beautifully realised, really feeling like you are in Victorian England.
3. The Doctor and Sabbath are both brilliantly written and such wonderful contrasts to each other.
Statistical Snippet
The Eighth Doctor is the most popular Doctor in book form and all spin-off media. The next is the Seventh Doctor with 2 less.
