The sound of a crashing TARDIS had been one Liz had hoped to never hear again having gone home to Cambridge, the fact that she was now residing in a block of flats that also contained one Rachel Jensen and Allison Williams doesn’t stand without saying, but Liz and Anya kept mostly to themselves lately.

“I told you he’d come back…”

Liz sighed, looking none too impressed. Anya had followed Liz out into the flat’s gardens and, even as Rachel and Allison came to join them, the doors flew open, with enough force that the young woman who had been pushing on them gave a startled yelp and pitched forwards.

“Ow…”

“Lydia, I did tell you to be…”

The Doctor had frozen in the doorway, soon joined by two of her former selves.

“Oh dear…”

The seventh incarnation looked amused, just slightly.

“Hello Professor Jensen… Miss Williams.”

“Doctor…”

Liz’s voice sounded just a little flat and frustrated, a fact that brought a beaming smile to all three Doctors’ faces.

“Liz!”

The woman’s name was a chorus and the twelfth variation paused to add.

“Anya, lovely to see you again…”

“Doctor… did you know you were likely to crash here?”

Lydia sounded just a little sceptical.

“Maybe…”

The twelfth variation had paused then ducked back into the TARDIS to see if she couldn’t fix her mistake, followed by the other, far more silent copy, the fourth variation who seemed to know that he had made a mistake earlier…

The seventh variation however had moved to talk further with Rachel and Allison.

Lydia had rolled her eyes and moved to introduce herself to Liz and Anya, seemingly bewildered but willing to make new friends.

“I see he still has a habit of crashing…”

Lydia sighed and nodded.

“Sadly… yes.”

Within moments the Twelfth variation on a theme had returned, calling both the seventh incarnation and Lydia back inside, waving goodbye and setting off again.

Silence fell before Liz commented.

“Foolish man… all of them.”
