Just Another 50th Anniversary News Roundup

The next exciting update, in which...

Puffin Books have revealed details of author and plot for the second in their series of Doctor Who 50th Anniversary "e-shorts"!  I'll confess to not being familiar with Mr Michael Scott or his work, although I do actually know who Nicholas Flamel was (or is?!). Still, the brief story description certainly sounds intriguing.

Also details of some upcoming Doctor Who novels in the ongoing new series tie-in series, which I can't help but feel are somewhat 50th anniversary-themed themselves; not only kicking it oldschool monster-wise with Daleks and Cybermen, by the looks of it, but also apparently taking in that historical event most closely linked to the debut of Doctor Who on 23 November 1963 by blind fate and coincidence, namely the previous day's assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Which may or may not be considered an appropriate subject for a Doctor Who novel...

Meanwhile...

The excellent Combom blog links to BBC Worldwide's new site dedicated to the Fiftieth Anniversary. Which, at a cursory glance mainly looks like it's trying to sell you stuff, but then again, as they say, they do help fund new BBC programmes. Which isn't to say that that precise £9.99 you just dropped on a bearded-Eleven-in-straitjacket action figure (with kung-fu grip??) is going towards Jenna-Louise Coleman's bus fare around Cardiff and environs or anything, but it's the thought that counts, I suppose.

And finally, in the shocking conclusion...

It's Mark Gatiss again, probably being entirely truthful about just how long he's wanted to get this Adventure in Space and Time thing going, and possibly being somewhat "magical realist", RTD-style, about how he's always wanted David Bradley to play William Hartnell in it. And if you're wondering what the first comment below the article could possibly be going on about, well, I'd forgotten myself about that line from "The Pitch of Fear", a comedy sketch Mr Gatiss and a certain Mr David Walliams performed as part of BBC2's 1999 "Doctor Who Night". This forgetfulness was aided by the fact that they edited said line out of the version of said sketch included as an extra on the The Beginning DVD boxset. Wonder why?

And on that bombshell, I leave you until next time...keep your eyes peeled for any 50th anniversary news you may come across yourselves and feel free to post it here on Who @ 50 if you so wish. :)
