Deep Breath - the Aftermath!

Aug 25, 2014 22:34

Still cogitating and considering before I share my own thoughts on Saturday's premiere (I agree with one commenter on the reaction post that it's a solid 8 out of 10, but with a couple of issues I'm still trying to put my finger on - Capaldi was fantastic, anyway). In the meantime, the BBC website has summarised some reviews of Deep Breath (a lot ( Read more... )

*hugs* ♥

(I love Clara. I'm also avoiding commenting on things much. I just want to enjoy a show that I enjoy, that's all. Are we still allowed to do that?)

I think an 8 out of 10 is about where I'd put it too. I enjoyed the episode, but it won't rant as one of my top 5 episodes or anything.

By 8 out of 10, I mean very good. I think I still rate The Eleventh Hour higher as a debut story, because it had a certain swagger about it. However, the performances and the character stuff here were all fantastic and the story looked great - I just wish there had been more of a plot to hang it on given the extended run-time. And despite being a huge Eleven-fan, the phone call and the other on-the-nose bits where Moffat seemed to be talking directly to the audience through Clara did annoy me a bit. But I am easily annoyed. ;)

Hey, trying to catch up, since I haven't been out here in awhile. I liked "Deep Breath", even though it is not as strong an introduction as "The Eleventh Hour" was, IMHO. I am totally loving Capaldi, as I predicted that I would. I like Clara too, and think she is even better with 12 than she was with 11. I don't understand people's objection to her.

I like the more prickly side of 12, but then he has moments of vulnerability that are lovely to see.
