New(ish!) BBC Series 8 Trailer

Jul 23, 2014 23:56

Well, technically speaking, anyway.

Yes, a new trailer for the forthcoming Series 8 was shown this evening on BBC One ahead of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. Don't get too excited - it's just a shortened version of the one shown during the World Cup final with no extra shots I can see.

I think what's noteworthy, though, is that the BBC are absolutely advertising the heck out of the boy Capaldi's imminent debut, and using strategic timing around their other big "event" programmes to reach the widest possible audience. Mind you, from what the BBC's annual report tells us about the importance of Who to the Corporation, you can see why.

In other news! Buy a sure to be very pricey (and hotly contested!) limited edition 50th Anniversary boxset simply in order to own The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot? I think not, actually. Hopefully it will become available in less deluxe form somewhere down the line. I also note said boxset doesn't include what was for my money the best factual programme of the BBC anniversary proceedings, the BBC Two documentary "Me, You and Doctor Who", which I really enjoyed at the time.

And... Missing episodes? What missing episodes? Strange that this should come back into the news (and I also saw coverage of this story in at least one actual newspaper) just as a new series is about to begin. Not that I want to start any conspiracy theories or anything, but...hmmm...?
