Director of Tenant Rights Program
Job Announcement
Since 1985, St. Peter's Housing Committee has worked in the mission district of San Francisco, CA, to help working class immigrant Latin@ tenants to build collective power, preserve and expand affordable housing and immigrant rights, prevent displacement and improve living conditions in our community through tenant rights counseling, political organizing, movement building, and the development of leadership within the communities we serve.
The Director of Tenant Rights Program is responsible for coordinating and developing the tenant rights program, including the direct service provision and organizing work of the organization. Responsibilities may also include participating in SPHC organizing campaigns with other staff and allies. This is a full time position (40-50 hours a week).
Responsibilities
Coordinate and develop tenant rights counseling program
§ Provide tenant rights counseling services
§ Coordinate tenant counseling weekly schedule
§ Investigate and update organization on relevant tenant law and policy changes
§ Coordinate training for SPHC counselors and members re: tenant law changes
§ Investigate and expand resources and legal assistance for program
§ Coordinate the development of educational materials, including tenant rights guide
§ Complete program reports for funding contracts
§ Monitor effectiveness of the program and trends on tenant rights
Coordinate anti-gentrification and tenant rights organizing program
§ Represent SPHC in tenant rights coalitions, collaborations or alliances
§ Coordinate SPHC anti-gentrification organizing team and campaigns
§ Develop and coordinate organizing and/or advocacy efforts about tenant rights
Qualifications
Experience in program development, organizing and service provision
Experience in working with immigrant communities
Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written)
Basic computer and administrative skills
Writing skills
Experience with popular education and skills development preferred
Required to attend after office hour meetings and weekend events.
Salary
$39,000 (1FTE) with benefits

§ Coordinate efforts to resolve cases with other housing service and/or governmental agencies
§ Maintain case files, record-keeping and reporting information in database
Qualifications
Experience in program development, coordination and service provision
Experience is supervising staff and/or volunteers
Experience in working with diverse communities
Excellent verbal and writing skills in both English and Spanish
Must have basic word-processing, database and administrative skills
Required to work some after or weekend hours
Salary
$33,000-36,000 (1FTE) with benefits

§ Maintain drop-in office hours for housing counseling
§ Provide brief housing counseling to callers and drop-in clients: provide advice, referrals and/or scheduling appointments
§ Provide housing counseling and case-management services for tenancy-related issues, including conducting client intake and case assessment, writing letters, negotiating with the landlords to resolve cases, and representing, advocating for and/or translating for tenants at hearings
§ Coordinate efforts to resolve cases with other housing service agencies and/or governmental agencies
§ Maintain case files, record-keeping and reporting information in database
§ Support member recruitment and other base-building activities
Qualifications
Experience in service provision
Experience in working with diverse communities
Excellent writing and verbal skills in both English and Spanish
