After the Flood, Noah's sons fathered clans. Japeth's grandsons fathered the coastal peoples. One of Ham's grandsons was athe Nimrod, a mighty hunter and builder of cities. Ham's line will also give rise to the Philistines, and all manner of Canaanites who will cause problems later; their territory is largely the same area that Israel will occupy after the Six-Day war. Shem's sons include Aram, and his grandsons include Eber, so we've already got the roots for Semites, the Aramaic language, and the Hebrews.
