Hello! I’ve made it my mission to make ALL flavors of ice cream from Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep in order of appearance, including the Final Mix exclusive flavor. I’ll start off each of these recipes with a brief description of the ice cream and an explanation for my choices in creating it in real life followed by the actual recipe, complete with pictures. Let’s get started!
I must admit, this ice cream stumped me until I looked up what the original name for it was. (Tabasco ice cream? Ew.) Curry is actually a fairly popular flavor for ice cream in Japan, but curry AND pepper seemed a bit overwhelming, so I decided to make a spicy molten chocolate cake.
Ingredients for curry ice cream:
1-1/2 c coconut milk
1 c heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
4 eggs
1/2 c sugar
2 tsp Madras curry powder
2 tsp garam masala (optional)
In a bowl, beat eggs and sugar until fluffy and light in color. Set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly until the mixture is brought to just under a boil. Immediately remove from heat. Combine the egg mixture with the milk mixture. Stir well. Quickly pour the mixture into a 9X5 3-inch pan. Let stand undisturbed for 10 minutes. Place pan in freezer and freeze until firm. Break the frozen mixture into chunks. In a bowl, beat until smooth. Return mixture to pan and freeze until firm. Makes 1 quart.
Ingredients for molten chocolate chipotle cake:
1 stick unsalted butter
6 oz semisweet chocolate
2 eggs
1/4 c sugar
pinch of salt
2 Tbs flour
1/4 tsp chipotle chile pepper
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Butter and lightly flour the ramekins. Tap out excess flour. Set the ramekins on a baking sheet. In a double boiler, melt butter with chocolate. In a bowl, beat eggs, sugar, and salt until fluffy and light in color. Whisk chocolate until smooth and fold into the egg mixture with flour and chipotle. Spoon the batter into the ramekins and bake for 10 minutes. Let cool for one minute. Cover each ramekin with an inverted plate. Carefully turn each over and let stand for 10 seconds, then remove the ramekin. Serve immediately. Makes 4 cakes.
In a gravy boat, place one cake and three scoops of ice cream on the side. Top ice cream with star-shaped sprinkles.
