am i a manhattanite yet?

well i've been living in manhattan for exactly 3 weeks now. right now i'm sitting around at my internship at Time Out New York waiting to be assigned more art listings. what this means is that i get to go through art gallery press releases for their opening/continuing gallery shows and outline the theme of the works within them...to be printed in next week's Time Out New York art section. YAY. hopefully i'll get to do increasingly more listings and then move on to some longer reviews as the weeks go on. but, until then, i'll be patient and open about 300-400 envelopes and packages containing press releases to be sorted every monday, call about 200 galleries asking for their summer hours and fact check for the upcoming show reviews written mostly by freelance writers, etc. anyway, it's plenty.

meanwhile too, i started my other (paying) job at club monaco in soho yesterday morning. i was thrilled to finally get started making some actual money and liked the idea of free $110 club monaco black pants to wear as a uniform all summer. by the way, using cash registers is a surprisingly satisfying endeavor.

besides work, i've been having some of the greatest days of my life recently. ali is, clearly, the best of all possible flatmates and our apartment is glorious. after a few brief days of straightening things out since the three boys who lived there before had maybe never cleaned and left much of their stuff sprawled out across the apartment's spacious hardwood floors, the two of us were set. the only problem after that was the fact that i ended up with no bed for the first 5 nights and was forced to borrow the incredibly generous meghann's blow up mattress. by monday after i arrived, i had it all though; a bed, a giant couch, a giant chair, a "three-person dinette set," a microwave, and also steven. luckily, our crazy and seemingly non-functional guarantor decided to rent us $900 worth of furniture for the summer to make us happy. fine by me. the only issue in our apartment now is that it is similarly inhabited by a very small, junk-food eating and sedentary nursing student named Heather. Heath if you will. while she's an incredibly nice person, her shrill voice and attempted dependency on me, ali, and our friends isn't working out as well as it probably could. these days, we rarely see our couch devoid of heath's presence. nor do we see it without its accompaniment by various forms of candy bars and/or pringles. ANYWAY, heath is a slight annoyance, but is also sort of hilarious to try and deal with, so ali and i are surviving. we simply wish the TV were less so her best friend.

to sum up, i'm obsessed with new york and really couldn't be happier here. of course i can't believe my living in this city worked out, but i also can't believe how comfortable i am here already and how much i'm in love with just walking through its streets every day. the only way i could potentially be having more fun than i am right now is if stev would stop heading off for graduations and boarding arbitrary cruises (as he claims he will, starting this saturday).

i wish i had pictures, but i don't. it's very strange, but i choose to remedy this in the days to come. i only hope it won't all go too quickly even though i know it pretty much has to.
