well new orleans, needless to say, was amazing. people other than me said more than once that it was their best spring break ever, so i currently feel pretty ok with the fact that i dragged everyone down south.
when we got to the magical, legal-to-drink-in-the-streets city, we took a limo to our (kinda extremely shitty) hotel on canal st. just after finding out that our luggage overflew us. little did we know we wouldn't get any of our stuff until 2am that night--way after each of us believed we desperately required at least one item from our non-present bags for survivial.
the first night, we hit the riverwalk and bourbon street and continued to do the latter just about every night thereafter. the next day was easter and we watched the easter parade and caught beads from floats full of rich people in chiffon and then got beignets and explored the french quarter while double-fisting newcastles. that night, we were invited by a friend of jon's dad's to have dinner and drinks at his house. the house was, as i kept repeating, "ridiculous." what i meant by that was that it was ridiculously beautiful and can only hope its owners understood. after a wonderful, very grown up dinner they drove us all to frenchman street for some live blues at the apple barrel where we tapped our feet and danced with the locals until about 3am. for the next 4 days we did it all--drank a lot in broad daylight, got old timey photos made, attempted to see the cemetaries, ate too much, drank too much, went to bourbon street too many times and got into the habit of eating beignets from cafe du monde every night at 3am. trey and i also visited a strip club and jen and i danced onstage at a club for quite the prolonged period of time. one night we found a hookah bar that served indian food, apple hookah and some of the best live jazz a la nina simone that can be heard. that night i got violently ill, but recovered within 15 minutes.
on our last day we went to the aquarium where i found the most beautiful jellyfish in the world and the most unbelievable, gorgeously graceful seahorses of all time. i also found an entire aquarium full of grow-a-frogs--the "pet" that my sister and i decided it would be a good idea to get sent to us in the mail when i was 8 and to force to live upstairs in lauren's dark closet until i was 20 (when my parents finally, i've been assuming, flushed).
all in all the trip couldn't have been better. our group was absolutely perfect and it was so warm that we got to wear dresses and flip-flops every day. anyway, the beignets alone were well worth the travel--that and the experience of crazy, bayou-humidified, and unmanagable hair.

after new orleans, i got to swing by nashville since it was conveniently our stopover city on the way back to providence. it was short 2 days, but somehow just enough of home athough i do miss viv and jim pretty much constantly. i came back to providence on jen's birthday to her in tears since she'd been stopped by an asshole of a cop, but soon revived her with a birthday dinner. now things are back to normal except that i've done no work as of yet. i'll get there, but i only wish there wouldn't come as soon.
