I, myself, prefer those short tailored leather jackets with a collar flap that buttons, to keep your neck and torso warm. Pockets on that jacket would be good. The half-trench coat style is in this season, in corderoy and satin - goes great with a chunky scarf or turtleneck sweater. And there's always the pea-coat...for that classic look. Don't think you have to get anything heavy; it's all about the material of the coat/jacket. Leather and wool are the warmest.
Gloves - ALWAYS have two pairs; one in your house and one in your car (in the event you forget the pair from your house)
A collection of colorful, stylish scarves will always make an outfit pop! Where two at once, when it's really cold out!
I recently invested in this cute barbie pink (OMG! I know!!!) knotted rasta-type beanie. I suggest you do something similar. I found it at Spencer's for $10.
Ear Muffs - only if it's consistently below 40 degrees F. If you really want to go trendy, UGGS now produces ear muffs, gloves, and a few other accessories of a similar quality and price point (expensive).
Layer the shirts - a cami, and two long sleeves, or a long, then a short sleeve. You're creative enough to do this!
Jeans are always my fave for cold weather. When it's really cold - where a pair of footless dance tights and double the socks. Keeping the feet on the tights makes wearing them under jeans uncomfortable.

Did I mention boots? Above all, have at least one pair of flat to slight heel rubber soled kick-ass leather or suede boots! Knee-high is the best. And if the snow is really fallin', you'll want to invest in some snow boots. Mine were puffy purple ones.

Hope this helps! And tell your boss "Bitches get stitches, yo!" Then bring her a doctor's note suggesting you not work until further notice.

Yay, Maria! Your style knowledge lets me know that every little thing is going to be alright... because I was basically taking the approach that you can't be warm AND stylish... But I believe you and feel much better about the whole situation...

I'm finally getting the hang of layering and basically asked for tons of warm clothes for Christmas, but still need a few of the things on your list... liiiiike that Barbie pink hat you speak of!!! I did get some Disney Princess mitten gloves though that rock my socks off! <3 <3 <3
