drinks with matt, odds and ends

i had drinks with my old flame friday night at a fairly chill bar over on u st, he and his b/f have a condo under contract, he's doing his own architecture business now, and we were doing some overdue catching up. it was nice to see him; i haven't seen him very much for lots of obvious reasons for the last 3-4 years. still the same easy and uninterrupted conversation and laughter. and yes, i still love him, but i'm at peace with our whole thing and was genuinely happy to see him and spend some time together. it's gotten a lot easier.

the new place is coming along, furnishing is probably 70% complete. i've been putting off the biggest project, which is painting, and that's kind of gotten finishing everything else on hold. there's no use to hang pictures or find cool new stuff to go on the walls until they're painted. but all-in-all it's feeling more home-like and i'm nicely settled in.

usa/canada hockey gold medal game today was loads of drama and i really enjoyed watching it; haven't seen many more thrilling sports finishes than the last second tie and then the fever intensity of the sudden death overtime cut off suddenly by... well, sudden death. agony and ecstasy. it was disappointing, but i'm pretty sure the canadians needed that win a lot more than we did. i can remember the winter olympics when i was a kid and the only medals the usa would ever win (other than the random miracle on ice) were figure skating and maybe speed skating. we'd be lucky to get 5 or 6 in the whole thing. so to break the overall record and win 37 was pretty amazing, though canada got their share of glory with the most golds ever. all-in-all, a pretty fair outcome for both i'd say. the russians are probably pissed though; eh, serves 'em right for all those "amateur" medals the soviets won back in the day.

really don't want to go to work tomorrow; maybe that is why i'm still up at 1 on a monday morning. ugh. happy march y'all.
