food & ideas

I got back like a week ago and hadn't really bothered going grocery shopping, so I ordered groceries online and got them today.  To be honest, minus the things I felt I 'needed' and wrote on my list, most of the others were more like browsing what's on sale, etc.  The Brits copied us and have a 3 day weekend, too (Bank Holiday on Monday), so they prolly have similar stuff on sale as we would.  In any case, I got some things I normally wouldn't really buy, or that looked interesting on the website even though I wasn't fully sure about what it was I got.  So far, I didn't care for the chicken pasta salad I got, it was kinda bland (and would've been tomorrow's lunch but I was too hungry and lazy today, which works out).

I had forgotten I got 2 packs of baby avocados (like 2-3 in each pack) and they sounded like a good idea at the time for wraps or something (wraps were on sale so I got 1 pack with herbs, the other plain).  I guess I miss FL, but I think it'd worth getting them if I don't mess them up.  One of my challenges is remember what I have and eating it before it starts going off, so these might be part of that challenge, but I hope not...  I also got basil, and I wasn't sure in what form (I half-expected a plant), but it turns out to be fresh ground up (like a paste?).  I actually got the basil for the fantastic quiche recipe Rae gave me, I was gonna make it in 2 weeks for a picnic with the psych girls, but yeah, no idea what to do with this stuff!  The other 'adventurous' item I got was corned beef.  I'm guessing it's going in a wrap for a lack of a better idea, maybe with the iceberg lettuce I got and some tomato, or maybe with eggs.  I kinda felt like I should've gotten more eggs, but it felt like it'd be too much to buy more than 6, and I could always get more later.  Finally, I've been in the mood for pasta salad for some reason, so I looked up some recipes and will likely try one of them, maybe for the picnic in 2 weeks.  That or make it like a tuna pasta salad or something, but it seems easy enough.  One of the ideas I found online but wouldn't think of trying is pasta salad using cheese tortellini.  I don't know if I'm feeling that brave, but I'd prolly either try using rice noodles, shells, or angel hair (because I already have those in my cupboard anyway.  I guess we'll see!

As always, I'm open to ideas and tips if anyone has any!

Happy Memorial Day weekend!

P.S. 3.5 months to go!
