Talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres kicked off the first show of her fourth season Monday in New York City's Central Park, surrounded by 10,000 fans and one very special guest: Justin Timberlake.
Looking dapper in a gray three-piece suit, Justin took to the stage to perform 'SexyBack,' the first single from his long-awaited album, 'FutureSex/LoveSounds'.
Rapper Timbaland, similarly dressed in a blue three-piece suit, joined J.T. on vocals, along with a full band of four backup singers, two drummers, two DJs, three guitar players and a keyboardist.
'I'm bringing sexy back,' they sang. So, just where did sexy go?
"I don't think sexy really went anywhere," Justin told Ellen. "This song is more about bringing fun back into music."
And fun he certainly had in the steamy New York heat. Justin, all smiles throughout the set, followed 'SexyBack' with another new song, 'My Love' -- a slower tune that showcases his incredible vocal range. And for an encore, he belted two crowd-pleasing favorites -- 'Cry Me a River' and 'Senorita,' from his 2002 smash album 'Justified.'
If Ellen is right, fans will love 'FutureSex/LoveSounds' just as much as 'Justified.' "Every single song on it could be a single," she told the audience, explaining that she heard the entire album at a listening party last week. Another guest at that party was former 'N Sync bandmate Lance Bass, who famously came out of the closet earlier this month. When asked if he was surprised by Lance's big announcement, Justin shook his head and smiled.
"Let's be honest . . . Don't think that we didn't know," he said. "He is one of my best friends. And I am so happy for him, because now he gets to live his life the way he wants to."
Shifting the focus to Justin's love life, Ellen sought to clear up the rumors of an engagement to Cameron Diaz. "Should I go ahead and get a bridesmaid's dress?" she asked.
"Go ahead and reserve one," Justin answered. "But you'll have to stay the same size for the next 15 years!"
Ellen's season premiere with special guest Justin Timberlake airs Monday, Sept. 4.
