Qibao Old Street

How to get there : get on Metro line 9 (light blue line) and get off at Qibao Station.

Qibao Old Street is one of the old commercialised streets in Shanghai that is open to public for sight-seeing, shopping and eating. It is also a mini water town so if you don't have to time to slot in a one-day trip to Zhujiajiao, you may compromise by just going to Qibao. It offers a lot less than what a water town has, but it has much more shopping and street food for you to try out.

it is quite a long walk from the Metro station you get off at. The old street is about 1km away. Thankfully, there were signs around to guide me or I would have got lost. Either way, if you're with a (tired) group, you may want to grab a cab.

Once you get there, you will see streets like these The shops here are genuine local China brands. Prices are definitely cheaper than foreign brands. Don't know about the quality but the jackets and shoes looked good.

You will eventually come to an entrance like this. Can't remember if there was a temple there but they did have a small garden. Anyway, this marks the entrance to the old street itself where you will find food stalls and souvenirs.

Similar to Yuyuan Garden? Yes, on a smaller scale.

The Old Street - souvenir shopping begins here!
On the next street you get to hop from stall to stall and try various dumplings and other foods.

THE CROWD! ... on a weekend and during holiday season. Avoid at all costs.

Verdict : One of my favourite places in Shanghai too. Only drawback is the distance from the city.

water town, street food, shanghai, shopping, sights
