The World Spins Madly On

This image was taken last weekend at Anilao. The stars were out, as in REALLY out. Quoting Incubus, “The sky resembles a backlit canopy, with holes punched in it.” If there were millions, billions, trillions of stars up in the sky, well, most of them were in sight last night. Even more amazing were the shooting stars. You could see ALL of them. Sometimes there would be 2 on the sky at the same time, sometimes there would be 4 or 5 successive ones. Anton suggested that maybe the sailors out at see who had this view most nights of their lives probably got tired of the sight. I thought that no one could ever get tired of watching something so amazing. About the image though, the circular streaks are actually stars. I left the camera shutter open for so long (15mins) that the stars apeared as streaks rather than specks. The circular motion, well, the Earth spins on axis, that about explains it. This is, in no way, edited.

Big things, like the sky, remind us of how little we are. Little, not small. Small tends to denote insignificance, while little only implies size. Whatever we do, whatever happens, whatever we think, the world spins on. The sun will still set today to give way to the moon, and the moon will fade to again welcome the sun tomorrow. People come, people go. Some of them will stay, some won’t even remember your name. Dreams fade. Memories fade. The whole lot. Its kind of a hard reality each of us must face. I myself haven’t really come to terms with that. I think I’ve to learn, and really soon.
