One thing that i've practiced in my life is the ability to keep things in life special. I think it has enabled me to keep life fun and exciting. Most of my days aren't really special. I'm not going to aim for a life where everyday is the best than the last. Sometimes enjoying life means sitting back and doing nothing. At least to me. But when I get to do something like go camping with friends, drink a bottle of wine in a park, smoke a cigarette on a summer's eve or go out drunkenly dancing with my friends, these things are so special that they make up for all of those lazy days. These are life's treats! If you try and make your life a smorgasbord of indulgences and gratifications, at the end of it all, you won't be able to distinguish one amazing time from another.
FYI: when I read Sarah Silverman's autobiography "The Bedwetter" (who by the way is one of my favourite people on the planet), I read how she had the same exact philosophy! I didn't have the exact same ideas as her but she pretty much defined what I had already been thinking. I believe she used the example of smoking pot. She only smokes a couple of puffs here and there so that it stays special and she doesn't become one of those pot-heads who needs a big huge fatty to feel anything. She is a lightweight! And so am I! And I super happy that I am because it makes everytime I DO smoke and/or drink a treat!
I think this mentality would really help people to not be addicted to things like cigarettes or booze. Well, maybe not, but it helps for me!
