Deleting your life

I have to admit, I haven't looked at my profile page in quite awhile, but I did just now, and I must say I was surprised and pretty disappointed to see how many familiar usernames showed up in strikethrough type: meaning of course that the account had been deleted and purged ( Read more... )

Only one person on my mutual friends list did that but I'm not sure what her DW is. :(

It is a shame that a number of people are leaving LJ. Yeah, the last couple years of my life are a couple of years I'd rather forget but it doesn't mean I'd delete my LJ.

The hemorrhaging is nothing like it used to be. Back around 2011-2012, it seemed like I'd lose 2 or 3 from my friends list every week. The people who are still here now seem to be here for good, though. No danger of them leaving. Or maybe they might yet leave LJ for DW, but at least I can still follow them there.

Partly it was due to other alternatives showing up, but also due to a series of bad management decisions, including the use of advertising on free accounts, going closed-source, trying to be something they weren't, and of course ultimately selling out.

Personally I don't give a rip about how my posts are "trending" or whatever, this isn't supposed to be a social media site.
