Dusting (And Sounding) Off

I have a blog

I'm not sure if it's Rogue work, current school work, outside forces, the weather or simply laze to the highest degree that I've put off recent updating. I apologize for not knowing what has been going on in your neck of the woods. Things should calm down by next week which, as I've learned from one Tirso Ripoll, will spend the whole day online and catching up on many many delayed things.

I liked imbelossien's post about finding your roots. I do maintain it's way better to know you're related to a War Chief/Datu over a Spanish dignitary. But to start off first

Chino

Chino is a place (Chino City California. Chino City in Nagano). Chino is also a cloth that you make Chinos from (How original). None of these have any connection to why I was bestowed with such a nickname.

One accepted story around the family is that I was named after Joseph "Chino" Roces, the then owner of Manila Times and eventual one of the key figures during the People Power Revolution. This coincides with the trend of other relatives being given nicknames referencing the events (My sister Patricia is nicknamed Pipay. She was born a month after the Feb 1986 Revolution so her nickname was a shortened version of People Power. My cousin was nicknamed Snap, after the Snap Elections that preceeded the Revolution).

But the real story took place like this all those years ago:

Mother: If our first born child is a male, I want his nickname to be Chino.
Father: Okay.

After I was born, my parents said they had to spend an extra day at the hospital because they couldn't fill out the birth certificate with what my real name was. Which brings me to:

Gerardo

A Spanish variation of Gerard, which is German for "Strong" or "brave with spear". This DOES put to mind about certain Firsts who were brave with Spears (Because without it, they just become puppets).

Being the eldest, my mother was obviously pretty nervous and excited about having her first born child those 23 years ago in May. HER mother, a religious woman if I've ever met one, suggested that she pray to the patron saint of children and mothers, Saint Gerard.

Martin

Roman name whose meaning says "Of Mars" or "Of War". That's awesome in its own right so that really doesn't need to be elaborated on further XD.

Caluag

The Caluag name has its roots from Malolos, Bulacan. This side of the family often finds itself going there when it can and I usually tag along. I can't really say much about them at the moment because the latest memory I have of these trips to Malolos happened more than a decade ago.

I do recall it being the first summer where I learned about Child Safety looks in cars.

Reyes

Spanish for King and probably one of the most common last names you'll find around these parts amirite? I'll bet you could name alot of famous people with that name (Bata, Ricky, Jai, etc) and I assure you, I am NOT related to any of them.

So to sum up

Gerardo= Strong with Spear
Martin= Of War
Reyes= King

I think we all know who THAT is

Thread over. I win.

Do you think it was purely coincidence a man named GERARD Butler was cast as Leonidas?

I don't know about the rest of you but '08 is looking to be a busy but rewarding year. I'm still continuing my writing stint for Rogue (I'm invited to their Christmas Party. Which you know just by looking at their covers promises to be full of beautiful people). I know I've alot already to do band managing-wise come next year and there's also that TV show I'm doing with the mangs. All in all I hope to find time to do film still.

We're closing out 2007 with Pasay Blues Night V very soon since it promises to be a huge event. I'm looking forward to more of it come 2008.

Which reminds me. I have to make my annual "Best Of" Year End list soon.

Look me up on Facebook if you have time. It is super!ior

Stay classy LiveJournal. Lest you bow to your new Russian overlords.
