lots of cool asian/japanese stores on st. marks place between 3rd and 2nd aves. kim's video on st. marks place has lots of anime and various asian dvds on the 2nd floor (this is where i got all of my korean drama boxsets). there is a really nice small japanese supermarket in the basement of a bakery, the supermarket is calles JAS Mart if you are coming from 3rd ave it is on the right side of the street. also Sun Rise Mart is nice, it is on stuyvesant st on the 2nd floor (take the elevator up). it is near the nyu campus.

also mitsuwa shopping center is in edgewater, nj. it's right across from nyc, on the river. there is mitsuwa japanese grocery store (huge, this is there magali and i went shopping a lot), also in that building are a lot good japanese restaurants. next to the grocery store is a nice japaense bookstore, and some other stores in the same building have lots of asian/japaense stuff, including a cute toy store!

oh, and of course chinatown always has tons of anime stuff. my favorite place is penguin village on elizebath street. if you walk down canal st. towards the bridge elizebath street will be on your right, then the penguin village is just past the police station on the right. the anime stores are in the basement. on weekdays the stores don't really open until late afternoon, like after school lets out. on the weekends by noon they should be open...they are always really busy on the weekends.
