So I'm not one to quit reading something just because someone is using a term that I don't really like used. I've been warned/told (by more than one person) that some people will not read my fic due to the use of 'duckling' and 'wombat.' Yeah, okay.
I can understand if the misuse of terms bugging a person to the point of not reading anymore. I can even understand getting very tired of a use of something within a fandom, but at the same time that shouldn't stop a person from reading. If the fiction totally misuses a religion or group or quits making any sense at all then I can see not reading.
In my fics (of which there will be more and yes, I know only one fic is up right now) I will use both 'duckling' and 'wombat.' I try not to overuse them within a fic. I tend to only use 'duckling' in thoughts execpt when Wilson is bugging House. I don't use it every other time I need to say 'fellows.' I don't use 'wombat' unless House is saying it and usually it only happens when Chase does something House likes/hates or House just wants to get a reaction. Wombat was a well choosen animal to discribe Chase. Yes, they aren't the cutest things, but what they are is this: Wombats tend to move slowly, but when required they can move very fast. They can summon great reserves of strength when attacked or provoked. They are feirce fighters when they decide to fight and can leave nasty wounds behind. To me Chase seems to be at rest unless he has to be doing something. He's quiet right up until he gets provoked and then it can get ugly. House strikes me as some one that would make that sort of connection.
And then there's the pain... House is shown to be in great pain, but also able to fold himself up to sit on the floor or in a corner. He may need extra time to get up, but he can do it. Also, take if from someone in constant pain, when he decides to he can just move. Pays dearly for it later, but it can be done. This applys to smut activites as well. He isn't going to care if the leg hurts once things start happening. If it's an activity that he can do without the leg just folding under him then let him do it. Don't curtail what you write just because he seems crippled. Yes, his leg hurts. Yes, it restricts his movements to some extent, but he can still move. in my fiction House will occasionally do things where you think 'really, can he do that?' When that happens you'll see mention of the paying for it later part. I have a decent idea of how he can move because I have issues too.
For me it's my right hip. Hurts constantly and flares pain up and down. Sometimes folds up. Sometimes seizes. I've been told everything from I'm a druggie that isn't in pain to they need to take the whole leg off. Currently they want me to replace it. It's my hip and leg. I like them. (Sound like someone else?) I take my meds as little as possible and I do what I decide to do if I can do it. Even if I have to force the hip to do it. If you happen to have questions on what you think House could or could not do ask me. I bet I can give you a good idea.
