Chase watched as the group from downstairs came towards them from the elevators. He glanced at Abby who was gathering up her candy and the half-gone Caf-Pow. Chase didn’t try to help after considering that she might react to help like House would. He ignored the glare from DiNozzo. During the moment Abby put down the bag of candy to reach the Caf-Pow, Chase snatched up the bag. Then he grinned at Abby as she glared at him when he wouldn’t let her carry it.
They all followed Ducky and Gibbs down the hall and into Wilson’s room. House stood up as they came in. Chase slid in and stayed against the wall. The room was overcrowded and Chase didn’t want anyone ordering him out.
"Gregory, this is Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Jethro, this is Dr. Gregory House." Ducky stepped back and let the two men look at each other.
House raised his chin slightly. "Your reputation leads me to believe we should avoid getting mad at each other."
Gibbs quirked up one corner of his mouth. "Your reputation leads me to know getting you to stay put, out of the way of this investigation, is going to require special assistance."
House cocked his head. "Ahh, now I know better than to mess with a NCIS case."
Gibbs shook his head. "You didn’t when you were 17."
House blinked. "You’ve met my father haven’t you?"
Gibbs’ smile spread. "No, just heard the story."
"Ah. It’s a legend then?"
Gibbs stuck out his right hand. "Something like that. Call me Gibbs."
House shook hands. "Call me House."
Chase started as Abby squealed and bounced in place. Gibbs winced as House turned his head towards Abby and glared. Abby clapped a hand over her mouth and muttered an apology before moving over to stand by Ducky.
"You owe me five bucks."
Ducky glanced between Abby and the two men who were both watching curiously, before turning all of his attention on Abby. "We agreed on one whole day, I do believe."
Abby rolled her eyes. "Fine, but I still don’t think one of them will punch the other. They are both nicer than that."
Chase and DiNozzo exchanged looks. Then DiNozzo stepped forward.
"Ah, not that we don’t believe you, Abby, but…" DiNozzo trailed off as both House and Gibbs looked at him.
"Let’s get on with the case, right Boss?" Gibbs turned towards Wilson and started looking him over closely. "Boss?"
"Do we know what he exposed Dr. Wilson to?" asked Gibbs.
DiNozzo winced. "No. Not yet, Boss." Gibbs turned to look at DiNozzo. "McGee is working on it, Boss."
Gibbs gestured towards the door. "Then go help him."
DiNozzo grabbed Abby’s arm and headed for the door. "On it, Boss!"
Chase followed them out. This was going to be more interesting than listening to Gibbs ask the same questions DiNozzo had asked already.
They went further down the hall than Chase expected before they stopped and glared at each other, completely ignoring Chase.
"I can’t believe you bet on Gibbs!"
Abby rolled her eyes. "You’ve bet on him before."
"Not about family!"
"It’s okay, Tony. House bets about everything, trust me."
DiNozzo shook his head. "You never talk about your father and you know what he bets on?"
Abby sighed and turned her head towards Chase. "You know of anyone that would want Wilson gone?"
Chase blinked. Well, that’s a House-like topic change. "Ah, no, not that I know of. He’s really well liked. He’s House’s buffer against the rest of the world. Everyone around here understands taking out Wilson would just get you an angry House. And they get angry House often enough without wanting to cause it."
DiNozzo cocked his head. "Is House’s father military?"
Chase nodded. "Marine. Retired as far as I know."
DiNozzo made a note on his PDA. "Hmm." He looked up from the little device. "This doesn’t really make sense. The dead Marine appears to pick someone at random to die on... In this hospital which isn’t even the closest hospital to where the Marine lived or worked. It’s stupid to come here."
Chase started to answer until he saw Cameron and Foreman coming their way.
"Trust me, you want to see this."
"Right. What kind of prank do you think you and Chase can pull on me?"
"It’s not a prank." Foreman stopped beside Chase and gestured at Abby. "Tell her who you are."
Abby eyed Cameron up and down. "Oh, no, she’ll just pester me until I kill her."
Cameron glared at Abby. "Excuse me?"
Abby reached out and patted Cameron on the shoulder. "I’ve no idea why Dad agreed to take you out, but trust me that if he had to do it over he’d have taken Chase."
Chase bit the inside of his cheek to keep from laughing as Cameron's eyes narrowed at the perceived insult and then grew wide as just what Abby said sunk in.
Cameron shook her head as if to clear it. Then she dropped into the nearest chair with a thud.

Wilson lay still as he listened to House talking to the other two men over his bed. He desperately wanted up so he could corner Abby into telling him more about House's past. Almost as badly he wanted to be right where he was overhearing House being polite, well, as close as House could get at least. Wilson cracked one eye to watch Ducky waving his hands around as he told a story about House as a fellow. I'll have to remember to tell Cuddy we should be happy House doesn't have the mobility to drag his fellows out of the hospital more than he already does. Of course, if I tell her where he learned if from she'd ban Ducky from the grounds. Wilson rolled his head to the side and watched as an orderly he didn't recognize injected something into his IV. Wilson blinked, craned his neck to look down at his arm, and frowned.
Within moments House was at his elbow. "Wilson?"
Wilson blinked. "What am I on?"
House tilted his head. "Nothing particular. What's wrong?"
Wilson tried to flex his hand and barely got a twitch. "My arm is burning."
"Shit." House disappeared from Wilson's sight and then all Wilson could hear was shouting and a dull roar in his ears.

Chase as doing his best not to snicker at Cameron's expression when House barreled out of Wilson's room.
"Stop him!" House was pointing at an orderly just a few feet from where Chase and the others were standing.
Chase reached out to catch the orderly who lowered his shoulder and shoved Chase into the wall. Hitting hard, his head snapping back into the wall, Chase slid down to the floor. Dazed he watched as DiNozzo chased the man into a stairwell down the hall.
House stopped beside Chase. "You hurt?"
"Looks like it." Chase reached a hand up to where he'd hit his head and came away with blood.
House squatted carefully, grip tight on his cane, and he moved Chase's head to one side. "Softie."
Chase's eyes felt heavy. He wondered when he'd gotten so tired. "Okay."
Suddenly House's hold on his chin tightened painfully. "Stay with me, Chase."
Chase tried to pull away. "Tired."
House let Abby crowd in and start patting Chase's cheeks. "I don't care, stay awake."
Chase forced his eyes back open. He didn't want House mad at him again. "Sorry."
House pushed himself up enough to get sat in the chair Cameron had vacated moments earlier. "You can apologize later. Tell Abby about your home."
Chase leaned into Abby's hand on his face. "O...kay."
Abby turned at looked up at House as Chase started describing the office and how he liked their coffee.
****
Cuddy stepped into House's office to find Abby sitting at the desk typing on House's computer. Cuddy started to ask what the young woman was doing, but then she remembered that she'd said they could have free run of the hospital. Mostly to make that asshole cop mad. "You okay?"
Abby glanced up before going back to typing. "Mostly. I don't like it when people I like almost die. It's been happening more the normal lately."
Cuddy sat down in the chair near the desk. "Both Wilson and Chase are going to be okay."
Abby nodded absently as her fingers flew across the keyboard. "Tony lost the creep. Gibbs is on a rampage." Abby glanced at Cuddy. "Which means now is a good time for that annoying cop to show up."
Cuddy started to say something, but stopped as Abby kept right on talking.
"Chase has a horrible concussion. Wilson's loopy from whatever he was injected with and we still can't tell what he was exposed to in the first place." Abby waved one hand around for a moment before returning it to the keyboard. "Which, of course, makes Dad a bear."
Cuddy blinked. "What?"
Abby turned her head and looked at Cuddy. "I thought you knew."
"Evidently not. Are you saying House...my annoying, can't-stand-to-be-in-the-same-room-as-a-patient, House is your father?"
Abby nodded. Cuddy brought her hand up to her temple. They stared at each other for several moments. "Dad's never going to forgive me."
Cuddy rubbed her forehead before dropping her hand. "What for?"
Abby stuck out her lower lip. "I didn't get a picture."
Cuddy smiled faintly. "He's got enough embarrassing pictures of me."
Abby grinned. "I know."

(Part 5)
A/N: I had to srcap the plot I have worked out because an episode from this season NCIS was waaaaay too close. That means you may see gapping holes the further along we go. It's my first try at NCIS-type plot and I'm quickly finding I suck at it. I'll do the best I can, but no promises that you won't want to smack me later. And as always say so if you see something funky with my writing.
