The Lasting Taste of Christmas.....

Well Christmas is all over and dusted for yet another year, and the New Year is upon us. This Christmas was very pleasant, spending it with friends and Damien, rather than my family. The sun was shining, too much alcohol was consumed and all in all it was a lovely day!

This Christmas season I also found myself trying out an assortment of new bits and pieces in the kitchen, becoming quite domestic and almost reminiscent of a 1950's housewife! Even more so by the fact that II was trying my luck at bottling and preserving by making jams and relishes as gifts. And they are so easy to make and taste so much nicer than ones bought from the supermarket!!

Spiced Apricot Jam (Apricot and Cinnamon)

Mixed Berry Jam (Strawberry, Boysenberry and Raspberry)

Spiced Tomato and Onion Relish
I also had a go at making a fruit flan from scratch. When in Hastings, we always seem to get one of the lovely fruit flans from the New World bakery if it is a special occasion. I just so happened to stumble across a recipe to make such a flan and decided to give it a go - and you know what, it tasted so much better than the New World one! So, as it turned, I made three flans in the span of three days, all slightly different in regards to the fruit on top and the decoration (the ones for Christmas day had cherries on top!): one for my christmas dinner with the flatmates in christmas eve, one to take to Damien's for Christmas lunch, and one to take to Louise's for a boxing day BBQ. And they all went down a treat!
